About the WIN
The ESSnet WIN evolved from previous actions of the ESSnet Big Data projects, which targeted multipurpose statistics based on an array of non-traditional data sources. The WIN has particularly focused on web data and the capability to augment official statistics. The WIN has explored and advanced online data on job advertisements, enterprises, real estate, accommodation platforms and prices to move into statistical production. An intrinsic part of the work has been the development of solid methodological and quality foundations for generating statistics with web data. In addition, the Network has worked hand-in-hand with Eurostat, contributing to the development of the Web Intelligence Hub – an ESS-wide web intelligence environment to allow the production of statistics with internet data. Concurrently, the WIN intensively invested in competency-building and sharing knowledge on using web data in official statistics.
